The Astoria Film Festival, an annual film festival based in Astoria NY, aims to highlight the works of the many talented emerging filmmakers in Astoria, NY and from around the world.  Since Astoria was the epicenter of the very beginning of the USA film industry and home to so many current filmmakers, it felt very natural for it to create a space in Astoria to celebrate and nurture up-and-coming filmmakers.

The Astoria Film Festival was founded by Nina Fiore, an Astoria Native, Harvard University Graduate, TV/Film Producer, Inclusive Education/After School Programming Specialist, and former Executive at Viacom, Sundance Film Festival, MTV, Nickelodeon, and Noggin.

Astoria Film Festival is a 501c3 non-profit organization that seeks to create a supportive emerging filmmaker community in Astoria/LIC NY through an annual festival at Kaufman Astoria Studios, through regular screenings at local venues, and through clubs and classes for emerging filmmakers.

Astoria Film Festival also teaches young people the art, craft, and process of making media and film, while also helping build a strong connection between classrooms and the film, television, and digital media industry.

Our filmmaking workshops and school outreach initiatives aim to expose students to filmmaking via a comprehensive hands-on experience that guides young filmmakers (ages 5-18) through all phases of the filmmaking process. Students also learn about film and media careers, as we introduce them to Industry Professionals who share their own career paths and experiences with the students, and act as Mentors that help connect them to production opportunities, job opportunities, and internships outside of the classrooms.

We can work with schools to create Workshops, Speaker Series, and Master Classes to meet their needs. Additionally, we have experience creating and running inclusive workshops and are very open to providing workshops for all abilities.
