Master Classes

Astoria Film Festival provides the following workshops for local high schools and colleges

Each workshop is meant to handle up to 30 students, except for the Career Panels/Speaker Series. We’ll be adding new workshops come Jan 2025.

PRO FEEDBACK ON MEDIA PRODUCTION (FILM/ANIMATION)

10 hours

Astoria Film Festival provides a 10 hour workshops for existing film and animation programs, where we bring in industry professionals to provide feedback and guidance at key points along the production cycle.

We begin with a 1 hour in-person or virtual intro session/career fair so the students can learn about the professionals they'll be working with and about the jobs they hold in the industry.

Teachers then send us student work and get written and verbal feedback on the work from the professionals to the students in 1-1.5 hour zoom calls around these points in the development process:

Professionals then choose which projects they'd like to highlight in our Youth Festival OR there is an option for all student work to be highlighted in a special session for the school at our Festival.

This has been used to fulfill certain CTE Requirements in various NYC high schools.

SPEAKER SERIES/CAREER PANELS

Astoria Film Festival has a wide range of industry professionals we can bring to your school for Career Panels and Career Fairs. We can also arrange a Speaker Series. There are also virtual options for speakers (via zoom). Each speaker or panel session is 1.5 hours including a presentation and student Q&A. We can specialize it for your needs - from 1 speaker or panel to 8 speakers or panels per year. Prices vary accordingly.

HMU WORKSHOP

Award-Winning HMU for tv/film/events provides a demonstration of work as well as career advice on pathways to IATSE 798 HMU Membership.

HORROR HMU WORKSHOP

1.5 hours

DIRECTOR/DP WORKSHOP

1.5 hours

Professional Director/DP team demonstrate some of their techniques for achieving various shots in their films.
